The Eighth Annual "A Day For Farrell"

On Saturday, January 30, 2010 friends and family gathered in New York City for the eighth consecutive year to celebrate the of John G. Farell and raised over $40,000 for John's scholarship fund, which allows hard-working students in underserved areas of NYC to attend an outstanding Jesuit-run private school.

The John G. Farell scholarship is presented in memory of John G. Farrell (Xavier High School '87; College of the Holy Cross '91) in recognition of the lasting value of a Jesuit education and in thanksgiving for the blessings John received as a student and alumnus of Jesuit schools. John died in the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. This scholarship in his name is presented each year to a Brooklyn Jesuit Prep graduate who embodies many of John's virtues:

  • an optimistic spirit
  • a keen sense of justice
  • a genuine concern for others

Cat MacRae Library Provides Valuable Resource for BJP Students

The Cat MacRae Library, housed on our school's fourth floor is comfortable space for reading, writing, and letting BJP students' imaginations grow.  We have been fortunate to have a volunteer librarian host library class each week for every English/Language Arts class, and students eagerly take advantage of our supply of donated books (and we are always happy to receive more!).  Thanks to the additio of the Library, BJP's teachers have been able to encourage reading at home by hosting tafter-school book party events for our students, their siblings, and their parents.

Rah Rah Rah!! Cheerleading and more at BJP!

This year, Brooklyn Jesuit Prep is offering several new activities in our after-school program. In addition to sports and study hall, students can now choose to participate in yoga classes, choral classes, and can even join our new cheerleading squad! Good luck to all of the students participating in these activities, and stay posted for updates on games, performances, and more!

Fr. James J. Tully Scholarship Fund

Jack Reynolds, Vice Chairman of BJP's Board of Directors, and his wife Terry have established a scholarship fund in memory of Fr. James J. Tully, the beloved former pastor of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.  Even after the St. Teresa of Avila grade school closed, Fr. Tully continued to show his commitment to Catholic education by supporting BJP, both spiritually and financially, until his death in May 2005.  With the support of Fr. Tully's friends, family, and parishioners, more than $15,000 has been raised for the scholarship fund, which will provide graduate support and tuition assistance for BJP's eighth grade graduates.
