Fifth Annual Day for Farrell

Final Four Raffle

On January 27, 2007, friends and family of John G. Farrell gathered for the Fifth Annual Day for Farrell.  The day began with a memorial Mass at Xavier High School, followed by a reception at M.J. Armstrong's.  The group not only enjoyed spending time together and sharing memories of John, but also raised more than $35,000 for the John G. Farrell Memorial Scholarship Fund at BJP, by selling raffle tickets for Final Four tickets, behind-the-scenes Red Sox and NFL Films experiences, and many other sports-themed prizes.

Spelling Bees are Buzzing

Brooklyn Jesuit Prep held its second annual school Spelling Bee in early December.  The winners from each grade went on to the first-ever New York Nativity Spelling Bee, hosted at BJP for star spellers from BJP, Nativity Mission Center, and Saint Ignatius School.  Congratulations to our spellers, whose hard studying and preparation paid off!

Cat MacRae Library Opens to Provide Valuable Resource for BJP Students

On October 29, BJP celebrated the official opening of the Cat MacRae Library, housed on our school's fourth floor.  Over the last two years, teachers and wonderful volunteers have worked hard to transform this space from a dusty library full of old books into a comfortable space for reading, writing, and letting their imaginations grow.  We have been fortunate to have a volunteer librarian host library class each week for every English/Language Arts class, and students already are taking advantage of the many new donated books.  In fact, we have received so many books that we have been able to encourage reading at home by hosting two after-school book party events for our students, their siblings, and their parents.

Rah Rah Rah!! Cheerleading and more at BJP!

This year, Brooklyn Jesuit Prep is offering several new activities in our after-school program. In addition to sports and study hall, students can now choose to participate in yoga classes, choral classes, and can even join our new cheerleading squad! Good luck to all of the students participating in these activities, and stay posted for updates on games, performances, and more!

Fr. James J. Tully Scholarship Fund

Jack Reynolds, Vice Chairman of BJP's Board of Directors, and his wife Terry have established a scholarship fund in memory of Fr. James J. Tully, the beloved former pastor of St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.  Even after the St. Teresa of Avila grade school closed, Fr. Tully continued to show his commitment to Catholic education by supporting BJP, both spiritually and financially, until his death in May 2005.  With the support of Fr. Tully's friends, family, and parishioners, more than $7,000 has been raised for the scholarship fund, which will provide graduate support and tuition assistance for BJP's eighth grade graduates.
